Click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cupe.on.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Employee-Sponsor-letter-to-FR-and-BB-20191107-en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0read\u00a0a joint letter issued by the Employee-side Sponsors of OMERS in response.<\/p>\n<p>With less than 3 weeks notice and no consultation with Sponsor Organizations (e.g. CUPE), we have been informed that the OMERS Sponsor Corporation (SC) Board is scheduled to vote on these amendments on November 14th. CUPE Ontario and the other Employee Sponsors of OMERS have requested that this vote be deferred until more information is provided to us for consideration and consultation.<\/p>\n<p>Should these by-law amendments pass, the OMERS SC Board would no longer be appointed by and accountable to Sponsor Organizations and their members \u2013 like you. The OMERS SC Board is responsible for determining plan benefits and contributions and some of these proposed changes are unprecedented in Canada. No other pension plans have attempted to take away the representation rights of workers in the way that is being proposed here. These changes could undermine the political viability and sustainability of OMERS as a jointly sponsored pension plan, where unions and employers have equal voice.<\/p>\n<p>CUPE Ontario has always been, and will continue to be, a leader in the fight to protect our OMERS. We will keep you informed of developments and opportunities to take action.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Chers membres du SCFP-Ontario qui cotisent \u00e0 OMERS,<\/p>\n<p>Le SCFP-Ontario a r\u00e9cemment \u00e9t\u00e9 inform\u00e9 de plusieurs propositions de modifications aux r\u00e8glements qui changeraient fonci\u00e8rement OMERS, affaiblissant les voix des travailleurs et de leurs syndicats. En cliquant\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cupe.on.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/FR-Employee-Sponsor-letter-to-FR-and-BB-20191107-fr.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ici<\/a>, vous trouverez une lettre conjointe envoy\u00e9e par les promoteurs d\u2019OMERS de la partie employ\u00e9s en r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 ces propositions.<\/p>\n<p>Avec moins de trois semaines d\u2019avis et aucune consultation avec les organisations promotrices (le SCFP par exemple), nous avons \u00e9t\u00e9 inform\u00e9s que le conseil d\u2019administration de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de promotion d\u2019OMERS votera sur ces modifications le 14 novembre. Le SCFP-Ontario et les autres employ\u00e9s promoteurs d\u2019OMERS ont demand\u00e9 que ce vote soit report\u00e9 jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce que nous recevions plus d\u2019information pour examen et consultation.<\/p>\n<p>Si ces modifications aux r\u00e8glements sont adopt\u00e9es, le conseil d\u2019administration de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de promotion d\u2019OMERS ne serait plus nomm\u00e9e par des organisations promotrices et leurs membres, comme vous, et ne serait plus responsable face \u00e0 eux. Le conseil d\u2019administration de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de promotion d\u2019OMERS est responsable de d\u00e9terminer les avantages du r\u00e9gime et les cotisations au r\u00e9gime, et certains des changements propos\u00e9s sont sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent au Canada. Aucun autre r\u00e9gime de retraite n\u2019a tent\u00e9 de retirer les droits de repr\u00e9sentation des travailleurs de la fa\u00e7on qui est propos\u00e9e ici. Ces changements mineraient la viabilit\u00e9 et la p\u00e9rennit\u00e9 politiques d\u2019OMERS en tant que r\u00e9gime de retraite conjoint, au sein duquel les syndicats et les employeurs ont une voix \u00e9gale au chapitre.<\/p>\n<p>Le SCFP-Ontario a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9, et continuera d\u2019\u00eatre, un leader dans la lutte pour prot\u00e9ger OMERS.
