PARRY SOUND, ON – Today workers locked out of their jobs by Nipissing and Parry Sound Children’s Aid Society (CAS) will welcome to their picket line in Parry Sound the vice-president of a sister local from the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

Jim Little, vice-president of CUPE 1165-2, will take a donation of $500 from his fellow custodians and maintenance workers in schools across Nipissing and Parry Sound districts. The donation to CUPE 2049 is given in support of local members during their lockout.

“We’re grateful to Brother Little for joining us on our picket line and we’re grateful to the members of CUPE 1165-2 for their generous donation,” said Debbie Hill, president of CUPE 2049, which represents some 140 locked-out workers at Nipissing and Parry Sound CAS. “This is the type of support that sustains us as we continue the fight to improve the services that will keep children safe.”

Later today, Hill and other representatives of CUPE will visit Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller to share information about the issues behind the lockout and request the MPP’s support for returning to negotiations.
