Fort Mcmurray

We have all been deeply affected by the news of the wildfires devastating the Fort McMurray area. The fires have spread to 229,000 hectares and are still burning. Nearly 90,000 people have been forced to evacuate and preliminary reports suggest that at least 20 CUPE members have lost their homes. Our heartfelt thoughts are with the people of northern Alberta, and particularly with the CUPE members and their families who have been directly impacted.

As trade unionists, we are committed to the principle of solidarity, especially in challenging times. Now more than ever, it is crucial for us to live out that principle. As such, CUPE Ontario is donating $25,000 on behalf of our members to CUPE Alberta’s wildfire relief fund. The monies from this fund will be allocated to those most in need.

CUPE Ontario urges all CUPE locals in Ontario to support our CUPE Alberta family by donating to this relief fund.
