In December, you will be asked to decide whether Peterborough Distribution Inc. (PDI), which is owned by the City of Peterborough, should be sold to Hydro One.\n\nI am urging you to vote NO! Here’s why:\n\n1. Right now, if the power goes out, we know we can count on fast action to get the lights and heat back on because our city council is there to make sure we get reliable service.\nIn the hands of Hydro One, decisions about Peterborough’s electricity system will be made, not based on what is best for the community, but rather what is best for the company’s bottom line.\n\n2. Peterborough will lose substantial annual income and get less than half the money from the sale, while the Province, bankers and creditors walk away with the rest.\nEven though PDI is worth $105 million, Peterborough will only get $50 million while the other $55 million will get split up between the Province and the bankers and creditors that are promoting the deal.\n\n3. Our rates will go up despite a short-term rate freeze.\nEvery jurisdiction where electricity systems have been privatized rates have gone up. A short-term rate freeze will not protect the residents of Peterborough from the long-term fallout of rate increases.\n\nWhen making your decision, I ask that you consider what is in the best interest of the residents and voters of Peterborough.\n\nPlease listen to your constituency and keep Peterborough Distribution Inc. in public hands!\n\nThank you,\n
