Young Workers’ Group Mission Statement

We are young CUPE members of Ontario who are about to take our rightful place in the union and labour movement.

We believe that the future of the union and the labour movement as a whole depends on the strength of its young people.

Through our work with CUPE we strive to build our skills as activists, strengthen our leadership skills, protect our rights as workers, advance the issues of young workers in the labour movement and help build become part of a new generation of activists for CUPE.

Our mission is to reach out to young members through local, provincial and national initiatives to ensure we have an active, educated young worker membership.

Past Events:

Young workers are feeling the squeeze of low-wage, part-time and contract work, high tuition fees, unpaid internships, rising costs and a minimum wage that leaves us below the poverty line. After a productive forum in September and putting forward recommendations to address youth un(der)employment in February, Ontarians are coming together on May 14 to demand fairness for young workers. As smaller events are organized across the province, the central action will take place in Toronto.

Where: College & University (Northwest Corner)

When: Wednesday, May 14 at noon (12pm)

What: Rally for Fairness for Young Workers & test your survival skills in the Young Worker Obstacle Course featuring the unpaid bills balancing act, childcare juggle, never-ending student debt challenge and more!

On May 14, join young workers, students, parents, teachers and others to demand a $14 minimum wage and decent jobs for all workers!

Organized by: Ontario Federation of Labour – Young Workers Committee, Campaign to Raise the Minimum Wage, Canadian Federation of Students – Ontario and more. If you or your organization has any questions or is interested in helping with organizing in any way, please contact [email protected]
