CUPE ONTARIO CONVENTION 2009
MAY 27TH TO MAY 30TH
SHERATON HOTEL, TORONTO

DEADLINE
FOR RESOLUTIONS & CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

If your local or district council is planning to submit a resolution(s) or constitutional amendment(s) for consideration at convention, please note that the deadline for submission is March 13th, 2009.

We hope the following will assist you with your preparations.

Any affiliated local that has paid per capita tax on its total membership up to and including March 31st, 2009; district councils; CUPE Ontario executive board; and committees are eligible to submit resolutions and constitutional amendments.

Resolutions or constitutional amendments should not exceed 200 words in total.  They should be submitted on letterhead, signed by the President or Secretary, and sent either by email to [email protected]; or by fax 416-299-3480, or send a hard copy to CUPE Ontario, Ste. 801, 305 Milner Avenue, Toronto, ON M1B 3V4

We’ve included a sample copy of a resolution from last year’s convention that we hope will assist you.

SAMPLE RESOLUTION

Cupe Ontario will:

Fight the creation of new LHIN-wide health care employers such as regional laboratory corporations or regional supply chain corporations that take work and jobs from local hospitals and homes.

Because:

  • Health care services and jobs will be removed from local communities.  These unionized jobs are often irreplaceable in local communities.
  • Control by local communities is weakened.
  • Privatization of health care services will result (as for-profit corporations often cannot make the profits they desire when their services are limited to local operations, but see much more potential for profit in large, region-wide contracts).

To ensure that all our members are well informed and able to fully participate at convention, copies of CUPE’s Parliamentary Procedure manual are available from our office.  For a copy, please either email [email protected], or call Eileen at 416-299-9739 Ext. 311.  Copies will also be available at convention.
