World AIDS Day was declared in 1988 with the launching of the United Nations campaign to eradicate HIV/AIDS.   Yet almost 20 years later HIV/AIDS continues to spread.  This year’s campaign theme is “leadership”.  It calls upon all sectors of society including trade unions to take the initiative and provide leadership on AIDS in a bid to stop its spread.

CUPE members around the province work every day supporting and helping people with HIV/AIDS to live productive lives free of discrimination and harassment.   CUPE Ontario continues to support campaigns to educate all members on the issues and demand employment rights and human rights for people living with HIV/AIDS here in Ontario and around the world.  We urge you to support events in your community on December 1st and join the global fight against HIV/AIDS.
