Membership of CUPE Locals 82 and 543 vote to protect public services and
accept four-year deal

WINDSOR, Ont. – The City of Windsor’s unionized workforce, members of Locals 82 and 543 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), have ratified a four-year collective agreement with their employer.

The new agreement protects public services, badly-needed good jobs and provides modest wage improvements.

“Our members understood what we faced at the bargaining table. Their support helped us greatly through this entire process, and the bargaining committee thanks them for that support, said Jim Wood, President of CUPE Local 82, which represents City of Windsor outside workers.

“The members recognize the environment our Bargaining Committee was operating in. There are things none of us are happy about, but the members agree we’ve negotiated the best possible contract available under the circumstances. That’s what this vote is about,” said Mark Vander Voort, President of CUPE Local 543, which represents City of Windsor inside workers.

Both Wood and Vander Voort thanked their respective bargaining committees and bargaining support committees for their hard work, especially during the final week of negotiations.

“Every day, they came and stayed at the table for as long it would take to achieve a collective agreement that protected public services in the community. Our teams made an enormous personal contribution to make that happen,” said Wood.
