Dear Editor:

As a mother of two teens, I don’t see how this legislation is benefiting my children. For years, I’ve walked into Peel schools and the clean, waxed and polished floors that are proof of the hard work done by the custodial staff. I’ve been welcomed by the friendly office staff who are always ready to assist a child in need or help the teachers working in the classrooms.

I always thought they put students first.

As an employee of one of the largest school boards in Ontario, I can see the continued negative impact that Bill 115 has on all the workers. There are families that live pay cheque to pay cheque and now, as a result of this legislation, they have to even settle for less.

I believe the master plan is to destroy the rights of workers by removing their sick time, wage increases, pension and health benefits, and much more.

As a union activist, I proudly embrace my Local, CUPE 1628, and wear the colour orange and stand tall to fight against the legislation that is in direct violation of our democracy, constitution, and collective agreement.

I ask you to join us in fighting this legislation. We do put students first.
