Information Picket at Community Living Sarnia-Lambton
Information Picket at Community Living Sarnia-Lambton

Monday, May 14th, 2012:

Today CUPE Local 4370, representing workers at Community Living Sarnia-Lambton, held an information picket in front of the agency’s administration offices, calling on the agency to join with the union and community in calling on the Provincial government to adequately fund services to people with developmental disabilities and the workers who provide the supports that our communities rely upon.

Members of CUPE Local 4370, in contract negotiations with Community Living Sarnia-Lambton, distributed information to the community as they seek to avoid a lock-out/strike and negotiate a modest pension plan for members, the majority of whom have no retirement security supports, and with fair compensation reduce the high rate of staff turn-over, ensuring continuity in the supports provided to people with developmental disabilities.

Workers from Community Living Sarnia-Lambton were joined by CUPE members who provide similar supports to people with developmental disabilities in Essex and Hamilton, as well as OPSEU members and members of the CUPE District Council. On May 2, the local held a meeting with parents to discuss concerns about the impacts of inadequate funding on services. Thank you to everyone who came out to show your support!!

Please send letters of support to MPPs!

CUPE Local 4370 is urging supporters to send a letter of support. Please circulate to your members the attached draft letter of support, and urge members to send a letter to their MPP – with a copy to MPP Bob Bailey in Sarnia and Executive Director of Sarnia and District Association for Community Living John Hagens – urging MPPs to take up the issue of chronic provincial underfunding of developmental services.
