OTTAWA, Ont. – Local 2424 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), and its members on strike at Carleton University, will open picket lines and support the Terry Fox Run set to begin at the university tomorrow, Sunday, September 16th.

“We’re happy to support this event, and stand down our lines to cheer on the runners,” said Wiz Long, CUPE 2424 spokesperson.

The CUPE 2424 strike base at the Colonel By entrance will be converted into operations space for the Terry Fox Run, and CUPE will have porta-potties available for Run officials and participants if required.

CUPE represents 700 professional, office, technical and support staff at Carleton University, on strike since September 5th. Mediation talks are covered by a media blackout, and no details about the status of talks may be released at this time.
