Mental health issues are inadequately addressed in many workplaces, and mental health claims are often denied by the WSIB. CUPE Ontario has created this page to provide information and resources about preventing psychological injury, and about the process for filing and appealing workplace mental health claims.

The first step is to assess workplace hazards. Occupational Health Clinics for Ontario Workers provides useful Mental Injury Tools and a survey on their website. Your local can also contact your CUPE National staff rep and specialists for help.

Once you have assessed the workplace hazards, make recommendations at your Joint Health & Safety Committee. At that point, you can also seek help from a Ministry of Labour inspector. If that Inspector fails to write orders, then you can appeal it.
